A1 English: Foundation Year

This is a course for Foundation Year English students. The English language teaching is based upon the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which references six learning levels for English: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.

Through the use of modern, 21st Century materials, this course will strengthen the hard language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, and students will progress to the next level by the end of the course.

This course will also focus on soft skills such as creativity, communication skills, and critical thinking. This will be achieved through project work, task-based learning and the use of flipped classroom learning. The course lecturer(s) will be responsible for adjusting and adapting their teaching so as to meet the individual learning needs and learning styles of their students.

An overarching goal of this course is to empower Foundation Year students to become confident in their English language and communication skills, in order to express their ideas, and to start to think critically as health science professionals. This course will help prepare Foundation Year students to become academically inclined, organized within their university settings and to become responsible global citizens.
